Hiking Mitsu-toge-yama and Kawaguchiko

Tokyo, Japan

The Map

The Facts

  • Start or End: I started at Mitsu-toge train station (Google Map Directions) and finished at Kawaguchiko train station (Google Map Directions).
  • Length: 23.7km (14.7mi) in about 9.5hr
  • Grade: Hard. The climb up to Mitsu-toge-yama isn't a walk in the park (about 1000m of elevation gain from the train station) but the paths are well worn and the terrain not that difficult. From Mitsu-toge-yama to Kawaguchiko the path is downhill along a ridgeline and very enjoyable. The section around Kawaguchiko is very easy, flat and fully paved. The walk took me about 9 hours, so it was a long day.
  • Date Walked: 6th of November 2017

The Story

I picked a winner for my first ever hike in Japan. Plenty of autumn foliage, babbling streams, water views and the grandeur of Fuji-san.
