Kibune to Ohara via Kurama and Konpira-san

Kyoto, Japan

The Map

The Facts

  • Start or End: I started at Kibune-guchi train station (Google Map Directions) and finished at the Ohara bus terminal (Google Map Directions).
  • Length: 18.1km (11.2mi) in about 7hr
  • Grade: Medium to Hard. The trail ranges from quiet roads to somewhat steep and rocky trails. The road from Kibune-guchi train station to Kibune township, the Kyoto Trail sections and around Ohara are rather flat and easy to walk. The most difficult section was ascending and descending Konpira-san, made more difficult by plentiful fallen trees from the recent typhoon. I did plan to walk from Kibune township over to Kurama via Mount Kuruma, but the track was closed due to extensive typhoon damage. I had to backtrack to Kibune-guchi train station and walk along the road to Kurama.
  • Date Walked: 13th of November 2017

The Story

Typhoon damage ruined my plans to hike from Kibune to Kurama, but despite the setbacks, the remainder of the hike was filled with stunning scenery.
